uC/OS-II, uC/USB and uC/Probe demos available for new Stellaris evaluation kits
WESTON, Fla. – April 15, 2008 – Micrium, a leading provider of high quality embedded software components, today announced that it has successfully ported its uC/OS-IITM and uC/USBTM embedded system components to Luminary Micro’s new Stellaris® LM3S3000 and LM3S5000 series microcontrollers. The extensions to the Stellaris family most notably provide increased connectivity options with USB 2.0 full speed Host, Device, and On-The-Go capability and enhanced motion control capabilities with up to two additional motion-control pulse width modulation (PWM) outputs (for a total of eight).
Micrium’s uC/ProbeTM embedded systems monitoring tool also supports the new Luminary Micro platform, giving design engineers insight into the internals of a running embedded system in real time.
“Micrium’s embedded software components are ideal for the types of low-cost, high-performance applications that the ARM Cortex-M series of processors target, such as electronic toys, white goods, automotive and industrial control systems and medical instrumentation devices, especially in light of their motion control capabilities,” said Jean Labrosse, president and CEO of Micrium. “Supporting these new products further extends the relationship between our two companies to offer proven solutions to the embedded industry that offer customers a rapid return on their investment.”
Micrium’s uC/OS-II is a fully-featured real time operating system (RTOS) designed specifically to address the requirements of embedded systems. Fully certifiable for avionics RTCA DO-178B and EUROCAE ED-12B, medical FDA 510(k) and IEC 61508 standard for transportation and nuclear systems, it is a highly portable, ROMable, scalable, preemptive real-time, multitasking kernel (RTOS) for microprocessors and microcontrollers.
Micrium’s uC/USB has been designed from the ground up to offer a complete, portable and high quality universal serial bus (USB) software for all configurations: host, device or on-the-go (OTG). It features a small footprint, control, bulk, interrupt and isochronous data transfers, easy API, extensive documentation and turnkey solutions for integration and feature extensions.
“Micrium has a solid track record of providing high-quality embedded products to Luminary Micro’s customers,” said Jean Anne Booth, Chief Marketing Officer of Luminary Micro. “Today’s coordinated launch of our new Stellaris USB-enabled microcontrollers with Micrium’s port of uC/OS-II and uC/USB for the new Stellaris products enables our mutual customers to get to market quickly.”
The new LM3S3000 and LM3S5000 series Stellaris products announced today bring USB 2.0 full speed (12 Mbps) compliant OTG/Host/Device, enhancements to the Stellaris family’s motion control capabilities, in addition to providing smaller package options. The LM3S5000 series adds up to two controller area network (CAN) MACs. The new microcontrollers feature a 32-channel direct memory access (DMA) controller, a boot read-only memory (ROM) preloaded with the Stellaris Peripheral Driver Library and BootLoader and improved general purpose input/output (GPIO) drive strength. These new elements build on the existing Stellaris platform, which is built on an ARM Cortex-M3 core offering 50 megahertz, and 62.5 MIPS performance. The Stellaris family offers significant on-chip memory, advanced serial communications options, intelligent system integration, precision analog capability, and meticulous motion control advantages.
Micrium provides high-quality embedded software components in the industry by way of engineer-friendly source code, unsurpassed documentation, and customer support. The company’s world-renowned real-time operating system, the Micrium uC/OS-II, features the highest-quality source code available for today's embedded market. Micrium delivers to the embedded marketplace a full portfolio of embedded software components that complement uC/OS-II: a TCP/IP stack, USB stack, CAN stack, File System (FS), Graphical User Interface (GUI), and many other high quality embedded components.
