Step-by-step guide to add a TCP/IP stack to embedded designs
WESTON, Florida--April 15, 2010--MicriumPress, the recently announced publishing arm of Micrium, Inc., today unveiled a comprehensive book, µC/TCP-IP: The Embedded Protocol Stack. Written by Christian Legare, vice president of Micrium, Inc., the two-part volume is designed to be a step-by-step guide for engineers that need to implement a TCP/IP stack in their embedded designs.
"While developing Micrium's µC/TCP-IP stack, we reviewed all of the available reference material. Although many documents explained how IP technology worked, none covered how to implement the specifications into an embedded design," said Christian Legare, Micrium vice president. "In order to successfully embed a TCP/IP stack, special care must be given to how it is built as this greatly influences capacity and performance."
"Christian's TCP/IP book is indicative of Micrium's commitment to the embedded engineer. As we try to interject simplicity into our products so that they can be easily implemented in embedded designs, we are also aware that real education and hands-on practice is needed in the industry. The TCP book provides both," said Jean Labrosse, Micrium president and CEO.
The 828-page book delivers not only instruction, but also exercises that can be worked through immediately. Part I includes an overview of the basics of Internet Protocol, walking the reader through various aspects of µC/TCP-IP implementation and usage. Part II makes use of a versatile Evaluation Board (µC/Eval-STM32F107), as well as the IAR Embedded Workbench for ARM, Wireshark network protocol analyzer, a trial version of Micrium's µC/Probe, and application examples for the STMicroelectronics board.
The Part II examples enable readers to develop their own prototypes using the expandable Evaluation Board, which can be ordered as set with the book. Those who have purchased µC/OS-III: The Real-Time Kernel, written by Jean Labrosse, Micrium president and CEO, need not purchase another board - it is the same board that accompanies the µC/OS-III book. In that case, µC/TCP-IP: The Embedded Protocol Stack can be purchased as a book only.
Christian Legare is well known in the embedded world. His commitment to education is apparent at Embedded Systems Conferences, Embedded World, and other important industry shows, where he teaches classes covering several technology segments including: TCP/IP, File System, and USB.
µC/TCP-IP: The Embedded Protocol Stack can be purchased at: http://store.micrium.com, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble Booksellers, and other bookstores. Volume pricing for companies, colleges and universities is available at MicriumPress.com.
Micrium will also be raffling off copies at the Embedded Systems Conference SV, April 26-29, in Micrium Booth 2202. The list price of the set at the Micrium Bookstore is $179.95. Coupons will be handed out for a discounted price during ESC at the Micrium booth.
